Meet Judge Simmons.
Ann Marie Simmons started in law as a receptionist and a runner for a law firm in Jackson, MS. Over the next 20 years, she put herself through law school, prosecuted crimes of all types in Douglas County, and defended the U.S. and Oregon constitutions as a public defender.
In November 2013, Gov. John Kitzhaber named her to succeed Judge Ron Poole, who had retired after serving Douglas County as a judge for 35 years.
Now Judge Simmons has the opportunity to engage with citizens outside of the courtroom in the electoral process.
